Educational Q&A

The passage frames dynastic remembrance as ethically and ritually auspicious: recounting a pure royal lineage is presented as dhanya (blessed) and as yielding worldly goods—prosperity, fame, and longevity—thus emphasizing the cultural value of lineage, rightful rule, and the merit of hearing sacred history.

Vaiśampāyana continues his narration to Janamejaya, introducing a celebrated genealogical account. He notes a tradition that a certain figure (understood as Ilā) became both mother and father to Purūravas, and he describes Purūravas as a powerful king who ruled and enjoyed the thirteen oceanic dvīpas.
