Aṃśāvataraṇa-kathana (Catalog of Divine/Asuric Portions in Human Births) — Chapter 61

यदा तु विविधोपायै: संवृतैर्विवृतैरपि । नाशकद्‌ विनिहन्तुं तान्‌ दैवभाव्यर्थरक्षितान्‌,भविष्यमें जो घटना घटित होनेवाली थी, उसके लिये मानो दैव ही पाण्डवोंकी रक्षा कर रहा था। जब छिपकर या प्रकटरूपमें किये हुए अनेक उपायोंसे भी दुर्योधन पाण्डवोंका नाश न कर सका, तब उसने कर्ण और दुःशासन आदि मन्त्रियोंसे सलाह करके धृतराष्ट्रकी आज्ञासे वारणावत नगरमें एक लाहका घर बनानेकी आज्ञा दी

vaiśampāyana uvāca | yadā tu vividhopāyaiḥ saṃvṛtair vivṛtair api | nāśakad vinihantuṃ tān daivabhāvyārtharakṣitān |

దాచినవీ, బహిరంగమైనవీ అయిన అనేక ఉపాయాలతో కూడ దుర్యోధనుడు—భవిష్యత్తులో జరగవలసిన కార్యార్థం దైవమే రక్షిస్తున్నట్లు ఉన్న—ఆ పాండవులను నశింపజేయలేకపోయెను. అప్పుడు కర్ణుడు, దుఃశాసనుడు మొదలైన మంత్రులతో సంప్రదించి, ధృతరాష్ట్రుని అధికారంతో వారణావత నగరంలో లాక్షాగృహం నిర్మించమని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను।
