वैशम्पायन उवाच यदर्थ शार्कईकानग्निर्न ददाह तथागते । तत्‌ ते सर्व प्रवक्ष्यामि यथाभूतमरिंदम,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--शत्रुदमन जनमेजय! वैसे भयंकर अग्निकाण्डमें भी अग्निदेवने जिस कारणसे शाडूर्गकोंको दग्ध नहीं किया और जिस प्रकार वह घटना घटित हुई, वह सब मैं तुम्हें बताता हूँ, सुनो

vaiśampāyana uvāca | yadarthaṃ śārkāikān agnir na dadāha tathāgate | tat te sarvaṃ pravakṣyāmi yathābhūtam ariṃdama ||

Translation

వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను—ఓ శత్రుదమనా! ఆ ఘోర అగ్నికాండ సంభవించినప్పటికీ అగ్నిదేవుడు ఏ కారణముచేత శార్కఈకులను దహించలేదు, ఆ సంఘటన యథావిధిగా ఎలా జరిగిందో—అది అంతా నీకు యథార్థంగా వివరిస్తాను. వినుము.
