Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical force of seeking refuge: when a being in fear surrenders and begs “trāhi—save me,” the appeal activates a protector’s dharma. Even amid violent, divinely driven events, the narrative foregrounds the moral tension between rightful punishment and the duty to protect one who pleads for shelter.

During the burning of the Khāṇḍava forest, Maya the Dānava realizes he is threatened both by Agni’s fire and by Kṛṣṇa, who stands ready with the discus to kill him. Terrified, Maya calls out to Arjuna—“Run, Arjuna, save me!”—seeking Arjuna’s protection.
