Khāṇḍava Prelude

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical force of truthful speech and the fulfillment of a reliable prophecy or assurance: what was heard as a promise becomes verified in action, culminating in release from suffering (here, a curse).

A Brahmin speaker addresses a hero, saying that after hearing someone’s statement, all the women (sakhīs) came there; now, that statement has come true because the addressed hero has freed the speaker from a curse.
