यदि राज्यं न ते प्राप्ता: पाण्डवेया यशस्विन: । कुत एव तवापीदं भारतस्यापि कस्यचित्,यदि यशस्वी पाण्डव इस राज्यको नहीं पा सकते तो तुम्हें अथवा भरतवंशके किसी अन्य पुरुषको भी वह कैसे प्राप्त हो सकता है?
yadi rājyaṁ na te prāptāḥ pāṇḍaveyā yaśasvinaḥ | kuta eva tavāpīdaṁ bhāratasya api kasyacit ||
యశస్వులైన పాండవులకు ఈ రాజ్యం లభించకపోతే, నీకు—లేదా భరతవంశంలోని మరెవరికైనా—ఇది ఎలా లభించగలదు?
भीष्म उवाच
Rightful rule is tied to dharma and legitimate claim; if the most deserving heirs (the renowned Pandavas) are denied, then any lesser or rival claim becomes even less justifiable.
Bhishma is admonishing a claimant to the throne by pointing to the Pandavas’ superior legitimacy and reputation, arguing that denying them the kingdom makes the speaker’s own claim—and anyone else’s—untenable.
