Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic etiquette: ascetics and learned people address strangers respectfully and first inquire about their destination and origin, a preliminary step before offering counsel, shelter, or aid.

Brahmin students (brahmacārins) encounter the Pāṇḍavas and, in a respectful manner, ask where they are headed and where they have come from, setting up the next exchange in the story.
