गन्धर्व उवाच
A ruler who violates dharma—especially by harming an ascetic devoted to tapas—incurs grave moral and karmic consequences. The verse frames such violence as ‘rākṣasa-like’ and declares a fitting retribution: the king becomes what his conduct resembles, a man-eater.
A Gandharva confronts the king (addressed as rājāpasada) for killing an ascetic. As punishment, the Gandharva pronounces a curse that the king will from that day become a puruṣāda (man-eater) and wander the earth driven by craving for human flesh, then orders him to leave.
