Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes the dharmic responsibility of preserving and restoring a righteous lineage when it has been devastated—urging the begetting of a worthy heir whose qualities can uphold the family and its obligations.

Vaiśampāyana reports an exhortation addressed to a woman (called “suśroṇi”) to restore the ruined Bhārata line by bearing a son of exceptional, Indra-like splendor—signaling a turning point where dynastic survival depends on producing a capable successor.
