Adhyāya 25 — Liṅga-māhātmya (The Chapter on the Liṅga): Hari’s Śiva-Worship and the Fiery Pillar Theophany
यदि प्रीतिः समुत्पन्ना यदि देयो वरश्च नौ / भक्तिर्भवतु नौ नित्यं त्वयि देव महेश्वरे
yadi prītiḥ samutpannā yadi deyo varaśca nau / bhaktirbhavatu nau nityaṃ tvayi deva maheśvare
Devotees/supplicants addressing Lord Maheshvara (Shiva) in prayer
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It points to the highest aim not as a worldly reward but as abiding orientation of the self toward Ishvara—steady devotion (nitya-bhakti) that re-centers the inner self in the Supreme Lord.
The verse emphasizes bhakti as a core sādhana: sustained inner fixation (nityam tvayi) on Maheshvara, aligning mind and intention with Ishvara—an essential complement to Pashupata-oriented discipline in the Kurma Purana.
By presenting Maheshvara as the supreme object of refuge and the giver of the highest boon (devotion itself), it supports the Kurma Purana’s integrative theology where devotion to Ishvara transcends sectarian boundaries within Shaiva–Vaishnava synthesis.
