Kṛṣṇa Defeats Bāṇāsura and Receives Śiva’s Prayers
The Śoṇitapura Battle and the Jvara Episode
taṁ tvā jagat-sthity-udayānta-hetuṁ samaṁ prasāntaṁ suhṛd-ātma-daivam ananyam ekaṁ jagad-ātma-ketaṁ bhavāpavargāya bhajāma devam
Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī states that the Lord is a true friend because He sets one’s proper intelligence into motion if one desires to know the truth about God and the soul. Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī and Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī both emphasize that the term bhavāpavargāya indicates the highest liberation of pure love of Godhead, characterized by unalloyed devotional service unto the Lord.
This verse directly praises Kṛṣṇa as jagat-sthiti-udayānta-hetu—the cause behind the universe’s creation, sustenance, and dissolution—affirming His supreme, all-encompassing divinity.
After being subdued in battle, Bāṇāsura turns to surrender and glorification of Kṛṣṇa, acknowledging Him as the nondual Supreme Lord and seeking liberation (bhavāpavarga) through devotion.
By shifting the goal from temporary wins to inner freedom—cultivating devotion, humility, and remembrance of God as the inner Self—one loosens attachment and moves toward liberation from anxiety and repeated suffering.
