FAQs

It prescribes a specific dana-vidhi: on Śrāvaṇī, one should donate a guḍadhenu (a jaggery-based ‘cow’ offering) to a brāhmaṇa, with the instruction formally written/recorded.

It exemplifies the text’s Dharma-shastra layer: detailed, calendar-tied prescriptions for charity (dāna), specifying recipient (vipra), occasion (Śrāvaṇī), and the exact form of the gift (guḍadhenu).

The verse frames the act as dharma: performing the prescribed dāna on an auspicious observance-day is intended to generate puṇya (religious merit) and support ritual purity through sanctioned giving.
