It teaches that the felt “distance” to liberation depends on karma and inner disposition: puṇya and disciplined conduct make Shiva’s grace and the liberating goal seem near, while pāpa and harsh living strengthen bondage (pāśa), making the goal appear far.
Linga-worship is a purifying, sattvic discipline that converts one’s path from ‘raudra’ (cruel, passion-driven) to dharmic devotion; thus the devotee experiences Shiva (Saguna, approachable as the Linga) as near through regular worship and moral restraint.
Adopt daily Shiva-upāsanā with the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), maintain purity of conduct, and perform simple Linga-abhisheka; these are practical means to weaken pāpa and make the spiritual goal experientially ‘near’.
