tāmasasyāṃtaraṃ caiva mano me kathitaṃ tava | caturthaṃ pañcamaṃ tāta śṛṇu manvaṃtaraṃ param
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Cosmic Event: manvantara-cycle (succession of Manus; transition from Tāmasa to subsequent manvantaras)
It frames cosmic time (Manvantaras) as an ordered revelation, encouraging attentive listening and right understanding—supporting Shaiva Siddhanta’s view that knowledge (jñāna) matures devotion and loosens pāśa (bondage).
Though the verse is cosmological, the Shiva Purana presents such timelines as governed by Pati (Śiva); reflecting on these cycles strengthens reverence for Saguna Shiva as the Lord who presides over creation, preservation, and dissolution.
The direct instruction is “śṛṇu” (listen): practice śravaṇa—devotional listening/recitation of Purāṇic teachings—ideally alongside japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to internalize the teaching.
