Kālajñāna (Knowledge of Time) and Mṛtyu-cihna (Signs of Death): Śiva’s Instruction to Umā
prāṇaḥ saptadaśe caiva viddhi varṣaṃ na saṃśayaḥ | saptamāsānvijānīyāddinaiḥ ṣaḍbhirna saṃśayaḥ

It links prāṇa (vital force) with kāla (time), implying that inner mastery of prāṇa refines one’s experience of time—an important Shaiva-yogic principle where discipline of life-force supports steadiness of mind and progress toward Śiva-realization (Pati-jñāna).
While not describing a specific Linga-ritual, it supports the yogic foundation behind Saguna Śiva worship: regulated prāṇa and time-awareness stabilize attention, making japa, dhyāna, and pūjā to the Linga more concentrated and fruitful in devotion and inner purification.
A practical takeaway is prāṇāyāma and disciplined japa (especially Panchākṣarī—Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with mindful time-keeping; such regulation is traditionally paired with Shaiva sādhana like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and rudrākṣa to support steadiness and purity.
