नरकयातनावर्णनम् / Description of Hell-Torments for Specific Transgressions
निर्भर्त्सयति यः क्रूरो मातरं पितरं गुरुम् । विष्ठाभिः कृमिमिश्राभिर्मुखमापूर्य्य हन्यते
nirbhartsayati yaḥ krūro mātaraṃ pitaraṃ gurum | viṣṭhābhiḥ kṛmimiśrābhirmukhamāpūryya hanyate

Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga context; it teaches dharma by condemning guru-droha and pitṛ-mātṛ-apacāra, sins that intensify karmic bondage (pāśa).
Significance: Ethical instruction supporting śiva-bhakti: honoring parents and guru is foundational caryā; violation leads to severe karmaphala.
It teaches that severe karmic consequences arise from violating foundational dharma—reverence toward mother, father, and guru—because such disrespect hardens the heart and obstructs Shiva-anugraha (grace) needed for purification and liberation.
Linga worship in the Shiva Purana is not merely ritual; it requires inner discipline and humility. Disrespect to parents and guru contradicts the bhakti and śuddhi (purity) expected of a devotee approaching Saguna Shiva through the Linga.
The implied practice is prāyaścitta through repentance, respectful service to parents and guru, and steady Shaiva japa such as the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namah Shivaya,” undertaken with humility and moral restraint.
