The Jaṭilā Episode and the Testing of Pārvatī’s Austerity

śivanindākaro vadhyassarvathā śivakiṃkaraiḥ | brāhmaṇaścetsa vai tyājyo gantavyaṃ tatsthalāddrutam
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Significance: Establishes protective conduct for devotees: avoid the locus of nindā; the ‘place’ becomes ritually/ethically unfit, so departure preserves one’s merit and devotional purity.
It teaches that Śiva-nindā (reviling Śiva) is a grave spiritual offense that obstructs bhakti and inner purity; a devotee should avoid such company to protect devotion and dharmic conduct.
Linga-worship and saguna-bhakti depend on śraddhā and reverence; disrespect toward Śiva undermines the very attitude required for pūjā, mantra-japa, and receiving Śiva’s grace (anugraha).
The practical takeaway is saṅga-tyāga (leaving harmful company) and strengthening śivabhakti through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and maintaining sāttvika conduct; no specific bhasma or rudrākṣa rite is directly prescribed in this verse.
