Pārvatī’s Austerity and Counsel from Himālaya and Others
devā ūcuḥ | tvayā sṛṣṭamidaṃ sarvaṃ jagadetaccarācaram | saṃtaptamati kasmādvai na jñātaṃ kāraṇaṃ vibho
Devas
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
The verse highlights the central Shaiva insight that worldly suffering (tāpa) persists because the true cause is not recognized—ignorance of the Supreme Lord (Pati) and of the binding fetters (pāśa). It prepares the ground for Shiva’s instruction that liberation arises from right knowledge, devotion, and grace.
The Devas address the all-pervading Lord as the creator and controller; in practice, devotees approach that same Supreme through Saguna forms—especially the Shiva-Linga—so the unknown cause of suffering is dispelled by worship, mantra, and Shiva’s anugraha (grace), leading the mind from form to the formless truth.
A practical takeaway is to counter the ‘burning’ of existence through Shiva-upāsanā: japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), Linga-abhisheka with a prayer for inner clarity, and (where applicable) wearing Rudraksha and applying Tripundra as reminders of detachment and devotion.
