Joyful Kumbhakarna, washed his face, had a bath and being thirsty ordered a drink that can increase his strength.
By contrast, the verse highlights how indulgent preparation (seeking intoxicating/strength-rousing drink) can accompany an unrighteous cause; it implicitly sets up Dharma as disciplined strength used for just ends.
Kumbhakarṇa awakens, refreshes himself, and prepares to rejoin the war by demanding a strengthening drink.
Not virtue but raw martial readiness; the preparation underscores power and appetite rather than restraint.
