माल्यवानुपदेशः—रावणक्रोधः तथा लङ्काद्वाररक्षा-व्यवस्था
Malyavan’s Counsel, Ravana’s Anger, and the Fortification of Lanka
वीरद्वेषेणवाशङ्केपक्षपातेनवारिपोः ।त्वयाहंपरुषाण्युक्तःपरप्रोत्साहनेनवा ।।।।
vīradveṣeṇa vā śaṅke pakṣapātena vā ripoh | tvayāhaṃ paruṣāṇy uktaḥ paraprotsāhanena vā || 6.36.6 ||
நீ என்னிடம் கடுமையாகப் பேசியது வீரனை வெறுத்ததாலோ, பகைவனுக்குப் பக்கமாகச் சார்ந்ததாலோ, அல்லது பிறர் தூண்டுதலாலோ என எனக்கு ஐயம் உளது।
"Harsh and not well-meaning words have been uttered by you taking the enemy's side. I will not listen to what you said earlier."
Dharma values honest counsel and fair hearing; suspicion of truth-tellers is a moral failing that isolates a ruler from right action.
Rāvaṇa interprets corrective advice as hostility or betrayal, attributing it to bias or instigation.
The implied virtue is integrity in counsel (mantri-dharma): advising for the king’s welfare even at personal risk.
