Ravana’s Funeral Rites and the Ethics of Post-War Conduct
हन्तारंदानवेन्द्राणांयक्षाणां च सहस्रशः ।।।।निवातकवचानां च सङ्ग्रहीतारमाहवे ।
hantāraṃ dānavendrāṇāṃ yakṣāṇāṃ ca sahasraśaḥ | nivātakavacānāṃ ca saṅgrahītāram āhave ||
தானவேந்திரர்களை அழித்தவன்; ஆயிரக்கணக்கான யக்ஷர்களையும் கொன்றவன்; மேலும் போரில் நிவாதகவசர்களையும் அடக்கி ஆள்ந்தவன்.
"He who killed thousands of chiefs of Danavas, Yakshas, and subdued Nivatakavachas in combat;"
The verse teaches that extraordinary martial success does not grant immunity from the results of adharma; Satya asserts itself through consequence.
Mandodarī recalls Rāvaṇa’s mythic victories over powerful non-human classes, underscoring the scale of his fall.
Humility is implied: greatness without humility and Dharma collapses when confronted by righteous force.
