The Arrival of Janaka’s Messengers in Ayodhya
दृष्टवीर्यस्तु काकुत्स्थो जनकेन महात्मना।सम्प्रदानं सुतायास्तु राघवे कर्तुमिच्छति।।1.68.18।।
dṛṣṭa-vīryas tu kākutstho janakena mahātmanā |
sampradānaṁ sutāyās tu rāghave kartum icchati || 1.68.18 ||
காகுத்ஸ்தர் (ராமர்) அவர்களின் வீரத்தை கண்ட மகாத்மா ஜனகர், ராகவருக்கு தம் மகளின் திருமண-சம்ப்ரதானத்தைச் செய்ய விரும்புகிறார்।
Having heard their words, the door-keepers informed the descendant of Raghu (king Dasaratha). Thereafter, with the the king's permission, the messengers entered the royal palace and beheld the aged king Dasaratha who shone like a god.
Marriage is framed as dharmic bestowal based on merit and proven character: Janaka’s decision follows witnessed vīrya (capability) and righteous suitability, not mere hearsay.
The message reaches the point of proposal: Janaka wishes to give his daughter to Rāma after seeing his feat.
Rāma’s proven excellence (vīrya) and Janaka’s righteous discernment in fulfilling paternal duty.
