द्वारनियुक्तोवाच । किं नाम वहसे वृद्धे कः पतिस्तावकः पुनः । आगतासि कथं किं ते कार्य्यं राज्ञ्याश्च दर्शने । कस्मात्किं ब्रूहि विप्रे त्वं श्रोतुं कौतुहलं हि मे

வாயில்காவலன் கூறினான்— “மூத்தவளே, நீ என்னைச் சுமந்து வருகிறாய்? மேலும் உன் கணவர் யார்? நீ எவ்வாறு இங்கு வந்தாய், ராணியைத் தரிசிக்க உன் காரியம் என்ன? ஏன், எந்த நோக்கத்தால் வந்தாய்—சொல். ஓ பிராமணரே, பேசு; கேட்க எனக்கு ஆவல் மிகுதி.”

The speaker is the dvāraniyukta, a gate-attendant. The setting is the entrance to a royal residence where access to the queen is being regulated.
