The Dialogue between Rukmāṅgada and Dharmāṅgada
putrāpanayajairduḥkhai rātrau jāgartiṃ yatpitā | sa putro narakaṃ yāti yāvadābhūtasaṃplavam || 9 ||
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It frames filial duty (putra-dharma) as a serious karmic responsibility: causing sustained suffering to one’s parents—symbolized by a father’s sleepless nights—creates grave demerit leading to naraka until pralaya.
By warning against cruelty and neglect within the family, it implicitly supports bhakti as lived dharma—devotion to Vishnu is expected to manifest as compassion, service, and protection of dependents and elders, not mere ritual display.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught directly; the practical takeaway is dharma-niti for household life—ethical conduct and accountability for one’s actions toward parents.
