The Account of Mohinī
Mohinī-upākhyāna
sadāraḥ sasuto brahmanprāpito harimaṃdiram | rājñā'prahatayā bhaktyā harivāsarapālanāt || 40 ||
Narada (to a Brāhmaṇa interlocutor within the tīrtha-māhātmya narration)
Vrata: Harivāsara (Hari’s sacred day; commonly aligned with Ekādaśī observance in Vaishnava usage)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that steadfast devotion expressed through vrata-observance (Harivāsara) has transformative power—so strong that it elevates not only the devotee but also his family, bringing them to Hari’s abode/temple.
Bhakti here is defined as “aprahatā”—unbroken and consistent—shown through disciplined observance of Hari’s sacred day; devotion is not merely emotion but sustained practice aligned with Viṣṇu-dharma.
Kalpa (ritual discipline) is implied through the structured observance of a vrata/holy day (Harivāsara), emphasizing correct religious practice and regularity rather than technical grammar or astrology in this specific verse.
