सिद्धेद्वर्णागमाद्धंसः सिंहो वर्णविपर्ययात् । गूढोत्मा वर्णविकृतेर्वर्णनांशात्पृषोदरः ॥ ४ ॥

எழுத்து சேர்க்கையால் ‘ஹம்ஸ’ சொல் நிலைபெறும்; எழுத்து இடமாற்றத்தால் ‘ஸிம்ஹ’. எழுத்து விகாரத்தால் ‘கூடாத்மா’, எழுத்து லோபத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியால் ‘ப்ருஷோதர’—இவ்வாறு சொற்கள் இலக்கணச் செயல்களால் விளக்கப்படுகின்றன.
