Adhyaya 85 — The Gods’ Hymn to the Goddess and the Emergence of Kaushiki; Shumbha Sends His Envoy
iti kṛtvā matiṃ devā himavantaṃ nageśvaram / jagmus tatra tato devīṃ viṣṇumāyāṃ pratuṣṭuvuḥ
Right response to crisis includes right counsel and right action: resolve (mati), approach to a sacred center (Himavat), and praise (stuti)—a model of disciplined devotion rather than panic.
A narrative episode supporting dharma and worship practice; ancillary to the Purāṇic teaching function rather than core cosmology/genealogy.
Himavat symbolizes steadiness and the ‘axis’ of ascent; approaching Himavat to invoke Viṣṇu-māyā suggests turning to the foundational power that both veils and reveals reality—Śakti as the key to liberation and protection.
