Adhyaya 53 — Rudrasarga and the Measure of the Manvantaras: Svayambhuva Manu, Priyavrata’s Line, and the Seven Dvipas
तस्य पुत्रा बभूवुर्हि प्रजापतिसमा नव ।
ज्येष्ठो नाभिरिति ख्यातस्तस्य किंपुरुषो 'नुजः ॥
tasya putrā babhūvur hi prajāpatisamā nava /
jyeṣṭho nābhir iti khyātas tasya kiṃpuruṣo 'nujaḥ
அவனுக்கு ஒன்பது புதல்வர்கள் இருந்தனர்; அவர்கள் பிரஜாபதிகளுக்கு ஒப்பானவர்கள். மூத்தவன் ‘நாபி’ எனப் புகழ்பெற்றான்; அவனுடைய இளைய சகோதரன் ‘கிம்புருஷ’ ஆவான்।
Progenitors are valued not merely as rulers but as sustainers of order; being ‘Prajāpati-like’ implies responsibility for creation, protection, and dharmic continuity.
Directly ‘Vaṃśa’ (genealogy) and ‘Vaṃśānucarita’ (accounts of descendants), preparing for the eponymous mapping of varṣas.
Nine sons can be read as a symbolic ‘complete set’ of powers that diversify a single lineage into multiple domains—unity expressing itself as ordered multiplicity.
