अज्ञानपङ्कगर्भस्थमनुद्धारं महामतिः ।

आत्मानञ्च समुत्तीर्णं गाथामेतामगायत ॥

Transliteration

ajñāna-paṅka-garbhastham anuddhāraṃ mahāmatiḥ | ātmānañ ca samuttīrṇaṃ gāthām etām agāyata ||

Translation

அந்த மகாத்மா, உயிர்கள் அறியாமை எனும் சேறு-கருவில் மூழ்கி மீட்கப்படாததை கண்டார்; தாம் மட்டும் கடந்து சென்றதை உணர்ந்து, இக்காதாவை பாடினார்.
