Adhyaya 34 — Madālāsā’s Instruction on Sadācāra (Householder Conduct, Purity, and Daily Rites)
इष्टापूर्तायुषां हन्त्री परदारगतिर् नृणाम् ।
न हीदृशमनायुष्यं लोके किञ्चन विद्यते ॥
iṣṭāpūrtāyuṣāṃ hantrī paradāragatir nṛṇām | na hīdṛśam anāyuṣyaṃ loke kiñcana vidyate ||
ஆண்களுக்கு பிறனுடைய மனைவியிடம் செல்லுதல் யாகங்களின் மற்றும் புண்ணியச் செயல்களின் பலனை அழிக்கிறது; ஆயுளையும் குறைக்கிறது. இவ்வுலகில் நீண்ட ஆயுளுக்கு இதைவிட தீங்கானது எதுவும் இல்லை.

Ethics is not merely social: adultery is framed as a direct destroyer of puṇya and vitality, negating even accumulated religious and charitable merit.
