अध्याय ५०: उत्तरेण सह अर्जुनस्य रथप्रयाणे ध्वजचिह्नैः कौरवसेनानिर्देशः

चातुर्वर्ण्यस्य कर्माणि विहितानि स्वयम्भुवा । धनं यैरधिगन्तव्यं यच्च कुर्वन् न दुष्पति,ब्रह्माजीने चारों वर्णोके कर्म नियत कर दिये हैं, जिनसे धन भी मिल सकता है और जिनका अनुष्ठान करनेसे कर्ता दोषका भागी नहीं होता
cāturvarṇyasya karmāṇi vihitāni svayambhuvā | dhanaṃ yair adhigantavyaṃ yac ca kurvan na duṣpati ||
கிருபர் கூறினார்—சுயம்பூ படைத்தவன் நான்கு வர்ணங்களுக்குரிய கடமைகளை விதித்துள்ளான்; அவற்றைச் செய்தால் செல்வமும் கிடைக்கும், மேலும் அவ்வாறு செய்பவன் பாவக் குற்றத்திற்குரியவன் ஆகான்.
