मार्कण्डेय उवाच शृणु राजन मया दृष्ट॑ यत् पुरा श्रुतमेव च । अनुभूतं च राजेन्द्र देवदेवप्रसादजम्,मार्कण्डेय बोले--भरतश्रेष्ठ राजन! मैंने देवाधिदेव भगवान् बालमुकुन्दकी कृपासे पूर्वकालमें, निकृष्ट कलिकालके प्राप्त होनेपर सम्पूर्ण लोकोंके भावी वृत्तान्तके विषयमें जो कुछ देखा-सुना या अनुभव किया है, वह बताता हूँ, सुनो और समझो
Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca: śṛṇu rājan mayā dṛṣṭaṃ yat purā śrutam eva ca | anubhūtaṃ ca rājendra devadeva-prasāda-jam ||
மார்க்கண்டேயர் கூறினார்—அரசே, கேள். நான் முற்காலத்தில் கண்டதையும், பழங்காலத்தில் கேட்டதையும், தேவர்களின் தேவனின் அருளால் நான் தானே அனுபவித்ததையும்—அரசேந்திரா—இப்போது உரைக்கிறேன்; கவனமாகக் கேட்டு உணர்ந்து கொள்.
