कूटशाल्मलिकं चापि दुःस्पर्श तीक्ष्णकण्टकम्‌ । ददर्श चापि कौन्तेयो यातना: पापकर्मिणाम्‌

Transliteration

kūṭaśālmalikaṃ cāpi duḥsparśa-tīkṣṇa-kaṇṭakam | dadarśa cāpi kaunteyo yātanāḥ pāpa-karmiṇām ||

Translation

வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்—குந்தியின் மகன் கூட்டு-சால்மலி மரங்களையும் கண்டான்; அவை தொடுவதற்கே அரிதானவை, கூர்மையான முள்ள்களால் நிரம்பியவை. அங்கே பாவச் செயல்கள் செய்தவர்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்படும் கடுமையான வேதனைகளையும் அவன் கண்டான்.
