Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
इत्थं च सुरासुरविशिष्टा ब्राह्मणा य एव मया ब्रह्मभूतेन पुरा स्वयमेवोत्पादिता: सुरासुरमहर्षयो भूतविशेषा: स्थापिता निगृहीताश्च
itthaṃ ca surāsuraviśiṣṭā brāhmaṇā ya eva mayā brahmabhūtena purā svayam evotpāditāḥ; surāsuramahārṣayo bhūtaviśeṣāḥ sthāpitā nigṛhītāś ca.
இவ்வாறு பிராமணர்கள் தேவர்களையும் அசுரர்களையும் விட மேலானவர்கள். முற்காலத்தில் நான் பிரம்மரூபம் கொண்டு அவர்களைத் தானே உருவாக்கினேன். தேவர்கள், அசுரர்கள், மகரிஷிகள் முதலிய தனித்த வகை உயிர்களை, பிராமணர்களே அவரவர் அதிகார எல்லைகளில் நிறுவினர்; அவர்கள் மீறினால் கட்டுப்படுத்தி தண்டித்தும் வைத்தனர்.
