वृद्धबालातुरैर्वेद्यैज्ञातिसम्बन्धिबान्धवै: । मातापितृभ्यां जामीकभ्ि भ्रात्रा पुत्रेण भार्यया
vṛddha-bāla-āturaiḥ vaidyaiḥ jñāti-sambandhi-bāndhavaiḥ | mātā-pitṛbhyāṃ jāmikabhi bhrātrā putreṇa bhāryayā ||
முதியோர், குழந்தைகள், நோயுற்றோர், வைத்தியர், தன் சமூகத்தார், உறவினர், நண்பர்-பந்துக்கள்—மேலும் தாய்-தந்தை, இல்லத்தின் பெண்கள், சகோதரர், மகன், மனைவி—இவர்களுடன் இல்லறத்தான் ஒருபோதும் தகராறு செய்யக் கூடாது.
व्यास उवाच
The verse teaches gṛhastha-dharma: cultivate love and fidelity within marriage, practice sense-restraint (becoming jitendriya), refrain from fault-finding, and renounce quarrels—especially with those who deserve protection, respect, or care (elders, children, the sick, guests, teachers, parents, and dependents). Such restraint and harmony are presented as a means to freedom from sin.
