Bhṛgu–Bharadvāja-saṃvāda: Vānaprastha-parivrājaka-ācāra, Abhaya-dharma, and Lokānāṃ Vibhāga (Śānti-parva 185)

गन्ध: स्पर्शो रसो रूप॑ शब्दश्षात्र गुणा: स्मृता: । तस्य गन्धस्य वक्ष्यामि विस्तराभिहितान्‌ गुणात्‌

gandhaḥ sparśo raso rūpaṁ śabdaś cātra guṇāḥ smṛtāḥ | tasya gandhasya vakṣyāmi vistarābhihitān guṇān ||

பரத்வாஜர் கூறினார்—மணம், தொடுதல், சுவை, உருவம், ஒலி—இவையே (புலன்களால் அறியப்படும்) குணங்கள் என நினைவில் கொள்ளப்படுகின்றன. இவற்றில் மணம் பற்றியதாகச் சொல்லப்பட்ட குணங்களை நான் இப்போது விரிவாக எடுத்துரைப்பேன்।
