भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन्! वे गीध और गीदड़ दोनों ही भूखे थे और अपने उद्देश्यकी सिद्धिके लिये मृतकके बन्धु-बान्धवोंसे बातें करते थे। गीध कहता था कि सूर्य अस्त हो गये और सियार कहता था नहीं ।।
svakāryabaddhakakṣau tau rājan gṛdhro 'tha jambukaḥ | kṣutpipāsāpariśrāntau śāstram ālambya jalpataḥ ||
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—அரசே! கழுகும் நரியும் தத்தம் நோக்கத்தை நிறைவேற்றத் துடித்தன. பசி, தாகத்தால் சோர்ந்து, ‘சாஸ்திர’ காரணங்களைத் துணையாகக் கொண்டு வாதிட்டன—ஒன்று ‘சூரியன் அஸ்தமித்தான்’ என்றது; மற்றொன்று ‘இல்லை’ என்றது.
