प्रत्युपकुर्वन् बह्मपि न भाति पूर्वोपकारिणा तुल्य: । एक: करोति हि कृते निष्कारणमेव कुरुतेडन्य:
pratyupakurvan bahum api na bhāti pūrvopakāriṇā tulyāḥ | ekaḥ karoti hi kṛte niṣkāraṇam eva karoty anyaḥ ||
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—ஒருவன் செய்த உதவிக்கு பலமடங்கு பதிலுதவி செய்தாலும், முதலில் உதவி செய்தவனுக்கு இணையாக அவன் ஒளிர்வதில்லை. ஏனெனில் ஒருவன் செய்ததற்குப் பதிலாகச் செய்கிறான்; மற்றொருவன் எந்தக் காரணமும் இன்றி—தன்னிச்சையாக—நன்மை செய்கிறான்.
