Measured Policy and the Recognition of Malicious Disposition

करोत्यभीक्ष्णं संसृष्टमसंसृष्टश्ष भाषते । अदृष्टितो न कुरुते दृष्टो नैवाभिभाषते,जो बारंबार आकर संसर्ग स्थापित करता है, दूर जानेपर दोष बताता है, कोई कार्य करनेकी प्रतिज्ञा करके भी आँखसे ओझल होनेपर उस कार्यको नहीं करता है और आँखके सामने होनेपर भी कोई बातचीत नहीं करता, उसके मनमें भी दुष्टता भरी है, ऐसा जानना चाहिये

Transliteration

karoty abhīkṣṇaṁ saṁsṛṣṭam asaṁsṛṣṭaś ca bhāṣate | adṛṣṭito na kurute dṛṣṭo naivābhibhāṣate ||

Translation

பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—ஒருவன் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் நெருக்கம் நாடி உறவு ஏற்படுத்திக் கொண்டு, பிரிந்தபோது தொடர்பில்லாதவன் போலப் பேசுகிறான்; செய்யுவேன் என்று வாக்குக் கொடுத்த காரியத்தை கண் மறைந்தவுடன் செய்யாமல் விடுகிறான்; நேருக்கு நேர் இருந்தும் பேசாமல் இருக்கிறான்—அவனுடைய மனம் தீய எண்ணமும் வஞ்சக நோக்கமும் நிறைந்தது என்று அறிக।
