Adhyāya 57: Tapas–Dāna Phala
On the Fruits of Austerity and Giving
क्वचिदप्सरसां संघान् गन्धर्वाणां च पार्थिव
kvacid apsarasāṃ saṅghān gandharvāṇāṃ ca pārthiva | pṛthvīnātha! kvacid jhuṇḍa-kī-jhuṇḍa apsarāḥ vihāraṃ kurvanti sma | kvacid gandharvāṇāṃ samudāyāḥ svapriyatamānām āliṅgana-pāśe baddhāḥ santi sma | tān sarvān rājā dadarśa | te kadācid enaṃ dṛśyante sma kadācin na dṛśyante sma ||
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—ஓ அரசே, பூமிநாதனே! எங்கோ அப்சரஸ்களின் கூட்டங்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் விளையாடின; வேறெங்கோ கந்தர்வக் குழுக்கள் தம் பிரியத்தமைகளின் அணைப்பு-பாசத்தில் கட்டுண்டவர்கள்போல் இருந்தன. அரசன் அவர்களையெல்லாம் கண்டான்—ஆனால் சில வேளைகளில் காண முடிந்தது; சில வேளைகளில் காண முடியவில்லை।
