देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात् । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति
devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—தர்மசாஸ்திர விதிகளின்படி நீதியுடன் தமக்குக் கிடைத்த பெண்ணை கணவன் தேவதத்தையாகத் தன் மனைவியாக அறிகிறான். ஆகவே அவளை விதி அளித்த வரமாக ஏற்று, அந்த மணம் தகாதது எனச் சொல்லும் மனிதர்களின் பொய்மொழிகளைத் தள்ளிவிடுகிறான்.
