भीष्म उवाच अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् । मैत्रेयस्य च संवाद कृष्णद्वैयायनस्थ च,भीष्मजीने कहा--राजन! इस विषयमें श्रीकृष्णद्वैयायन व्यास और मैत्रेयके संवादरूप इस प्राचीन इतिहासका उदाहरण दिया जाता है
bhīṣma uvāca | atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṁ purātanam | maitreyaśya ca saṁvādaṁ kṛṣṇadvaipāyanasya ca ||
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—அரசே! இவ்விஷயத்திலும் ஒரு பழம்பெரும் இதிகாச முன்னுதாரணம் கூறப்படுகிறது—மைத்ரேயரும் ஸ்ரீகிருஷ்ண த்வைபாயன வியாசரும் நடத்திய உரையாடல்.
