Adhyāya 122 — Śruta-vṛtta-yukta Brāhmaṇa and the Ethics of Dāna
Maitreya–Vyāsa Saṃvāda
गुणभूतानि भूतानि तत्र त्वमुपभोक्ष्यसे । तत्र ते5हं विनेष्यामि ब्रह्मा त्वं यत्र वैष्यसि
guṇabhūtāni bhūtāni tatra tvam upabhokṣyase | tatra te 'haṃ vineṣyāmi brahmā tvaṃ yatra vaiṣyasi ||
வியாசர் கூறினார்—அங்கே நீ அனுபவப் பொருட்களைப் பஞ்சமஹாபூதங்களின் மாற்றங்களே என்று உணர்ந்து, பற்றற்ற நிலையில் அனுபவிப்பாய். அப்போது நான் உன்னிடம் வந்து பிரம்மவித்தையை உபதேசிப்பேன்; நீ எந்த உலகிற்குச் செல்ல விரும்புகிறாயோ, அந்த உலகிற்கே நான் உன்னை அழைத்துச் செல்வேன்.

Sense-objects should be experienced without clinging, by seeing them as mere modifications of the elemental world; when dispassion matures, the teacher grants brahma-vidyā and guides the seeker toward the desired (and ultimately highest) destination.
Vyāsa promises the listener that after they live with non-attachment—treating worldly enjoyments as elemental transformations—he will personally return to instruct them in Brahman-knowledge and then lead them to the realm they choose.
