Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
सकृज्जातिगुणोपेत: संगत्या गृहमागत: । अतिथि: पूजितो ब्रह्मंस्तेन मां नाजहात् स्मृति:
sakṛj jātiguṇopetaḥ saṅgatyā gṛham āgataḥ | atithiḥ pūjito brahman tena māṁ nājahāt smṛtiḥ ||
ஒருமுறை தற்செயலாக, பிறப்பிற்குரிய நற்குணங்களால் நிறைந்த ஒரு பிராமண அதிதி என் இல்லத்திற்கு வந்தார்; நான் அவரை முறையாகப் போற்றி உபசரித்தேன். ஓ பிராமணரே! அந்தச் செயல் காரணமாகவே என் நினைவு இன்றும் என்னை விட்டு நீங்கவில்லை।
