Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
शुभानां नाभिजानामि कृतानां कर्मणां फलम् | माता च पूजिता वृद्धा ब्राह्मणश्वार्चितो मया
śubhānāṃ nābhijānāmi kṛtānāṃ karmaṇāṃ phalam | mātā ca pūjitā vṛddhā brāhmaṇaś cārcito mayā ||
நான் செய்த நற்கருமங்களின் பலனை நான் நேரடியாக அறியவில்லை. ஆனால் நான் என் முதிய தாயை வணங்கி சேவித்தேன்; மேலும் ஒருமுறை வீட்டிற்கு வந்த பிராமண அதிதியையும் முறையாகப் போற்றி உபசரித்தேன். ஓ பிராமணரே! அந்தப் புண்ணியத்தின் வலிமையால் இன்றுவரை என் முந்தைய பிறவியின் நினைவு என்னை விட்டு நீங்கவில்லை।
