Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
धनं धान्यं प्रियान् दारान् यानं वासस्तथादभुतम् । श्रियं दृष्टवा मनुष्याणामसूयामि निरर्थकम्
dhanaṁ dhānyaṁ priyān dārān yānaṁ vāsas tathādbhūtam | śriyaṁ dṛṣṭvā manuṣyāṇām asūyāmi nirarthakam ||
மனிதர்களின் செல்வம், தானியம், அன்புப் மனைவியர், சிறந்த வாகனங்கள், அதிசய ஆடைகள், செழிப்பு ஆகியவற்றைக் கண்டு, எந்த உண்மைக் காரணமும் இன்றியே நான் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து பொறாமையால் எரிந்தேன்।
