Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
गुप्त शरणमाश्रित्य भयेषु शरणागता: । अकस्मात् ते मया त्यक्ता न त्राता अभयैषिण:
gupta-śaraṇam āśritya bhayeṣu śaraṇāgatāḥ | akasmāt te mayā tyaktā na trātā abhayaiṣiṇaḥ ||
அபாய நேரத்தில் அச்சமின்மையை நாடி பலர் என்னிடம் அடைக்கலம் வந்தனர். நான் அவர்களை மறைந்த பாதுகாப்பான இடத்திற்குக் கொண்டு சென்றபின்பும் திடீரென அங்கிருந்து துரத்திவிடுவேன்; அடைக்கலம் நாடியவர்களை நான் காக்கவில்லை.
