Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
दुःखं हि मृत्युर्थूतानां जीवितं च सुदुर्लभम् | अतो भीत: पलायामि गच्छेयं ना सुखं सुखात्
duḥkhaṁ hi mṛtyur bhūtānāṁ jīvitaṁ ca sudurlabham | ato bhītaḥ palāyāmi gaccheyaṁ nā sukhaṁ sukhāt |
உயிரினங்களுக்கு மரணம் நிச்சயமாகப் பெருந்துயரத்தைத் தருவது; வாழ்வு கிடைப்பதும் மிக அரிது. ஆகவே அச்சத்தால் நான் ஓடிச் செல்கிறேன்—இன்ப நிலையிலிருந்து வீழ்ந்து துன்பத்தில் அகப்படாதிருக்க.
