एतच्छुत्वा तु वचनं वासुकि: पन्नगोत्तम: । प्रादान्माममरप्रख्य तव पित्रे महात्मने
etac chrutvā tu vacanaṃ vāsukiḥ pannagottamaḥ | prādān mām amaraprakhya tava pitre mahātmane ||
ஆஸ்தீகன் கூறினான்—“பிரம்மாவின் அந்தச் சொற்களை கேட்டபின், அமரர்களைப் போல ஒளிவிடும் இளையோனே! நாகர்களில் சிறந்த வாசுகி என்னை உன் மகாத்மா தந்தையின் சேவைக்காக ஒப்படைத்தான். இந்த நெருக்கடி வருவதற்கு வெகுநாள்களுக்கு முன்பே இதற்காகவே என் திருமணம் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது; பின்னர் அந்த மகரிஷிகளின் அருளால் என் கருவிலிருந்து நீ பிறந்தாய். இப்போது ஜனமேஜயனின் சர்ப்பயாகத்திற்காக முன்கூட்டியே கூறப்பட்ட காலம் வந்துவிட்டது; அந்த யாகத்தில் நாகர்கள் இடைவிடாது தீயில் எரிகின்றனர். ஆகவே அச்சத்தால் நீ அவர்களை விடுவிக்க வேண்டும்; என் சகோதரனையும் அந்தக் கொடிய ஜ்வாலையிலிருந்து காப்பாற்று. உன் ஞானமிக்க தந்தையின் சேவைக்காக என்னை அளித்த நோக்கம் வீணாகக் கூடாது. சொல், மகனே—இந்த பேராபத்திலிருந்து நாகர்களை மீட்க எது சரியான வழி என்று நீ கருதுகிறாய்?”
