Bhīṣma’s Counsel on Reconciliation and Partition (भीष्मोपदेशः—संधि-राज्यविभागविचारः)

ततो द्वैपायनस्तस्मै नरेन्द्राय महात्मने । आचख्यौ तद्‌ यथा धर्मो बहूनामेकपत्निता

tato dvaipāyanas tasmai narendrāya mahātmane | ācakhyau tad yathā dharmo bahūnām ekapatnitā ||

பின்னர் த்வைபாயனன் (வியாசர்) அந்த மகாத்ம அரசனுக்கு இவ்விஷயத்தில் தர்மத்தின் விதி என்னவென்று விளக்கினார்—அதாவது பல ஆண்களுக்கு ஒரே மனைவியை வைத்திருத்தல் (ஏகபத்னி-தர்மம்) தான் உரியதும் சாஸ்திரசம்மதமான நடத்தையும் எனக் கருதப்படுகிறது.
